Overview:
As of the end of 2006, 51.7 million people in France owned mobile devices. A total of 8% used their devices to surf the Internet, and 6% used them to read e-mail. Meanwhile, another technology, broadband Internet, has gained a solid foothold in France, with 12 million households covered by DSL service as of the end of 2006. Total e-commerce revenue in France was estimated at €12 billion, not including €3 billion in additional revenue from online finance and credit products. In fact, €9.7 billion in payment authorizations was granted for an impressive 146 million e-commerce transactions completed in France in 2006.These figures reveal that users are becoming increasingly comfortable with new technologies. This shift, along with advances in online payment solutions, is helping fuel the burgeoning digital economy.

A new payment solutions market is currently emerging to service transactions completed over innovative distribution channels. And, of course, financial institutions have a role to play in this new market. However, in the future, the dominant position financial institutions currently enjoy could be subjected to a variety of pressures. Indeed, in just a few years, new mobile-telephone-based payment applications based on NFC (Near Field Communication) technology could become the norm. This white paper offers insight into the risks and challenges faced by both the banking industry and telecommunications operators in this evolving landscape.

Overview :
Providing a family with the financing to buy a home is a pivotal event in the bank-customer relationship. While the home loan can be an effective means of attracting new customers, it demands state-of-the-art processes if opportunities are to be identified and seized. This white paper presents an overview of the main drivers for enhancing retail bank operational performance.

  • Improving the distribution network – What role can online customer service and customer contact centers play? How can the marketing mix be changed to increase local market share? What steps can be taken to turn a generalist sales force into a skilled professional one? How can the distribution network be adjusted to suit markets with varying customer densities?
  • Updating distribution and management processes
  • Building an integrated distribution channel that incorporates the main home-buying services

Overview:
The Equinox Consulting HR benchmarking survey identified “new frontiers” for HR departments (i.e., the areas in which HR can legitimately drive decision-making and take the lead in meeting customer needs). These new frontiers involve:
- The tools and effectiveness of HR departments
- The Return on Investment (ROI) of HR projects

Equinox consultants worked with HR professionals to study these two issues, and identified the following two basic principles.

  • Human Resources is both operational and functional. HR departments provide a variety of services, all of which impact a company’s bottom line. These relate to issues like healthy labor relations, quality recruitment procedures, and the appropriate training when a company enters a new line of business.
  • HR is playing an increasingly strategic role in large companies. The current economic climate – with globalization, international expansion, and continuous advancements in operations and production methods – has made HR an important factor in the success of any organization, as evidenced by the growth of large corporations focused on tracking HR indicators.

More concretely, proving that an HR department is effective means answering the following questions: What is its scope? Which cost measurement methods are used? How are HR plans implemented in different divisions? How are HR investments and the expected returns calculated? What performance indicators or scorecards are used and how?

To address these issues, Equinox Consulting held a series of workshops titled «HR Costs, Investments, and Benefits» in November and December 2006. The workshop participants came from the HR departments of large, global corporations, including American Express, Axa, Chantelle, La Poste, L’Oréal, Publicis, Rhodia, Siemens, and Société Générale.

Equinox Consulting then summarized the workshop proceedings in a white paper also titled «HR Costs, Investments, and Benefits,» which outlines the key points identified for each topic addressed.

Equinox also publishes articles in trade journals; for example, in the April 2007 issue of Banque Stratégie, a French strategy magazine, Sophie Madet and Gaëlle Marsal published an article titled «Lean Six Sigma et la banque commerciale, une histoire d'affinités,» or «Lean Six Sigma and Commercial Banking, A Tale of Attraction.»
